About the Book
Debut novel portrays wildfires and a deadly militia Pacific Northwest residents have seen what happens when a loosely organized group of anti-government militias and activists unifies around a common cause. The 41-day standoff at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in the winter of 2016 provided a sobering real-life example. But what if one of those anti-government militias fell under the charismatic sway of a highly competent veteran of military special forces? That’s the scenario that drives Vengeance Burns Hot, the debut novel of Rick E. George.  Vengeance Burns Hot features Ed Kline, a helitack firefighting pilot stationed at a fictional base at Snoqualmie Pass fifty miles east of Seattle. In the midst of a ferocious fire season and a budding romance, Ed receives a cryptic text pleading for help. He wonders if it originated from his adult son, who disappeared a year ago. Then a group calling itself the PUMAs—Patriots United Militia of America— assassinates two state legislative senators and perpetrates a lethal armored truck robbery on the same day. Was Ed’s son one of the killers, trying to escape them, or both? To find the answer, he risks his career, his new relationship, and his life. Vengeance Burns Hot should appeal to readers of stand-alone suspense novels such as those by Joy Fielding and Dennis Lehane.
