Waucoma Bookstore and the Hood River County Library are hosting poet Taylor Mali for a reading and discussion at 6pm on Weds., Sept. 12th at Hood River County Library (502 State St., Hood River). Mali will be discussing his book What Teachers Make: In Praise of the Greatest Job in the World. Taylor Mali is one of the most well-known poets to have emerged from the
poetry slam movement and one of the original poets to appear on the HBO
series "Def Poetry Jam."
About the Book

Former middle-school teacher and teachers' advocate Taylor Mali struck a chord with his passionate response to a man at a dinner party who asked him what kind of salary teachers make-a poetic rant that has been seen and forwarded millions of times on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.

The release of this video comes at the tail end of Taylor Mali's Quest
for a Thousand Teachers, a goal set in 2000 to inspire 1,000 people to
become teachers through "poetry, persuasion, and perseverance." After
more than 12 years, Taylor has reached this goal and released
his book, "What Teachers Make," described as "an impassioned defense of
teachers and why our society needs them now more than ever."
