Waucoma Bookstore and the Hood River county Library are hosting children's author Clete Barrett Smith for an author reading and discussion. Clete will be discussing his writing process and his new book Alien on a Rampage (book #2 in the Interglatic Bed & Breakfast series). The event will be at 4pm on Tuesday, June 5th in the Storybook Theatre at the Hood River County Library (502 State St, Hood River).
About the BookWhat if your grandmother's B&B was actually an inn for vacationing aliens?
What if one of those aliens wanted to destroy the world?
In Alien on a Rampage, Clete Barrett Smith’s sequel to Aliens on Vacation, David is looking forward to spending another adventure-filled summer at his grandmother’s Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast—a vacation hotspot for aliens.
But as soon as he meets Grandma’s new repairman, an alien named Scratchull, he becomes suspicious. The only problem is that it is difficult to be sneaky when you have a ravenous alien pet attached to you. Even though no one else—including Grandma—thinks that Scratchull is an underhanded handyman, David decides to spy on him. But no one believes David when he discovers that Scratchull really is an evil mastermind with a plot to destroy the planet. Without the help of Grandma and his friends, will David be able to save Earth before it’s too late?
Bursting with over-the-top chaotic adventure, middle grade readers will love this action-packed narrative.
“With a festival grand finale that's like a picnic of the living dead, this outing is spot-on for middle graders who like a dash of humor in their science fiction.”

About the AuthorClete Barrett Smith was a teacher for over ten years in Bellingham, Washington and has won several screenwriting awards. It took him about two years to get from idea to his book deal for Aliens on Vacation, sneaking in an hour or two in the afternoons and dedicating his Sundays to writing, all while working toward his master’s degree at Vermont College. He credits support from his wife, Myra, and two daughters for getting him through the rigorous process. Aliens on Vacation has made the Indie Next List twice—for both hardcover and paperback—was an ABC New Voices Selection, and was named a VOYA Top Shelf for Middle School Readers. Clete used his experiences in the small towns and forested mountains of the Pacific Northwest when writing Aliens on Vacation and this book. He is currently working on Aliens in Disguise, a third adventure set in the Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast.
