Once again Chris Bohjalian examines moral dilemmas and issues of faith through fully drawn characters and well-developed plot.  The Rev. Stephen Drew has been counsellor to one of his flock who is dealing with a bad marriage.  After the murder-suicide of this couple, Drew turns to an inspiration author for comfort....she has come to town to offer support to the orphaned teenager.  Carefully-hidden emotions and secrets are brought to light, and the book ends with a startling conclusion.  Although examining the dark side of human nature can be overwhelming, I could not put this book down.
