The Girl Who Fell from the Sky
by Heidi Durrow Algonquin, $22.95 This is one of my favorite books this year. Author Heidi Durrow (who grew up in Portland) does a wonderful job of describing what it is like to struggle between two cultures / racial identities. Her description of Portland are right on - I remember going to the Wonder Bread factory outlet with my grandma (who lived in NE Portland) and had friends who went to Holy Redeemer school.
